Dr. Shekhar Babu Rizyal

Dr. Shekhar Babu Rizyal (MBBS, DTCD & MHPEd)
Founder Principal, Nepal Medical College

I would like to welcome the eleventh batch of MBBS students to Nepal Medical College, (NMC) which is affiliated to Kathmandu University and recognised by Nepal Medical Council.

During the last ten years, a total of 949 students comprising of 435 female and 514 male have been enrolled, out of which 883 have been from Nepal, 58 from India, 5 from Srilanka, 1 from the Maldives, 1 from South Africa and 1 from Canada.

The first six batches have completed the MBBS course of study and from among the first four batches, 216 have already been conferred with the MBBS degree of Kathmandu University and are working in different health institutions both inside and outside the country. The fifth batch shall complete the internship by August '07, and shall be conferred with the MBBS degree in September this year while the sixth batch is awaiting the result of the final MBBS Examination, held in June/July '07.

Getting into the MBBS program is the most difficult phase for those intending to take up medicine as a profession. The level of difficulty increases for every new batch, mainly for the reason of having to face more competitors. But much more hardship lies ahead while pursuing medical study. This is indeed the reality!

For all those who wish to be associated with NMC, I would like to find out your response to the following query.

Among knowledge, skill and attitude, related to any field of learning including medical sciences, which one would you feel would contribute the most in reflecting the quality of a good medical practitioner? I would be happy to hear the response, should I be lucky enough in future.

The journey in reaching the society as a good medical practitioner begins for the eleventh batch of MBBS students at NMC in February 2008. Learning resources considered relevant and practicable are in abundance for the learners at NMC and its teaching hospitals including the community field. A good medical practitioner cannot be made overnight and takes years for gradual development. For so ever may wish to become one , I would like to wish good luck and convey best wishes.

May Lord Pashupatinath, bless you and enable you to begin your journey in becoming a good medical practitioner.
