I
would like to take this opportunity
to let you know that a group
of Nepalese professionals,
consisting mainly of medical
doctors, engineers, management
experts and educationists,
totalling fifty two in number
to date, joined their hands
together three years ago for
establishing a medical college
with a seven hundred bedded
teaching hospital in Bhaktapur
district of Kathmandu Valley.
As a result, Nepal Medical
College (NMC) with a two hundred
and fifty bedded Nepal Medical
College Teaching Hospital
(NMCTH) has been established
in own premises at Attarkhel,
Jorpati VDC of Kathmandu district
and has enrolled the first
batch of undergraduate medical
students in the Bachelor of
Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
(MBBS) programme which started
from December 1997.
With
the accumulation of some "
Seed Money" from each
of the founder members, we
have been able to start the
college and hospital under
Nepal Health Education Academy
(NHEA), which is a charitable,
non-governmental organisation
opened in dedication to the
People of Nepal. With a meagre
fund collected from the founder
members as "Seed Money"
it has been possible to initiate
the programme at a own premises.
However, it requires a large
sum of fund for the accomplishment
of the whole NMC project which
is a non-profit charitable
foundation that aims for self
-reliance.
The
mission goal of Nepal Medical
College is to impart quality
Health Sciences Education
perform scientific medical
research and provide quality
health services extending
from primary to the tertiary
levels. Forming the nucleus
of the health care delivery
system of Bhaktapur District,
Nepal Medical College with
its 700 bedded hospital, aims
to spread its activities into
the communities by establishing
out reached Community Satellite
Health Centres around the
district. The long term plan
drawn for the college and
the hospital outlines the
requirements for providing
health care to the people
of Bhaktapur in particular
and the adjoining districts
of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and
Kavre in general. Bhaktapur
district shall ultimately
become the teaching district
for Nepal Medical College
which in return will take
the whole responsibility of
providing health care to the
people of the district, through
its Teaching Hospital and
Community Satellite Health
Centres.
With
the background information
stated above, we want to achieve
our mission goal and hence,
are looking for grant aids
from friendly countries and
donations and endowments from
International Non-governmental
Organizations or Philanthropists
from around the world. Your
help in meeting our mission
goal by enabling us to get
grant aid and donations is
kindly requested with my folded
hands , for the cause of medical
education in Nepal in particular
and for providing health care
to the people of Nepal in
general.
It
is a great pleasure for us
to let you know that the NMC
Project is engineered by the
senior technocrats of this
country who are very professional
with the state of the art,
and have set result oriented
target. Realising that the
entry to the twenty-first
century is less than a thousand
days, innovations with computer
application in Health Sciences
has been incorporated in the
under graduate medical education
programme at this college
and computer network in the
first phase 250 bedded Nepal
Medical College Teaching Hospital,
the first of its kind in Nepal
to date, has become operational
in running day to day hospital
management. From the registration
of patients to recording all
investigations, nursing care
reports and patient datas
take place through computer
network that has ushered in
an era of computer application
in day to day patient management
system in Nepal.
Quality
education at par with that
of the rest of the world has
been adopted at this college
in line with the recommendations
laid down by world summit
of World Federation for Medical
Education held in 1993 in
Edinburgh.The college has
already applied for membership
of Network of Community Oriented
Educational Institutions for
Health Sciences at Maastrict
in the Netherland. The name
of NMC is already published
in the WHO Directory of Medical
Schools on August 1998. The
President of World Federation
for Medical Education in Copenhagen
has been informed about the
college and the activities
taking place at the moment.
The ultimate aim of the College
is to educate medical doctors
including rest of the human
resources for health and dispense
primary to tertiary health
care to the people , supplemented
with scientific health sciences
research.
Eventhough
our morales are high , aim
people - oriented and determination
very firm, our mission goal
faces the hurdle of financial
constraints for establishing
its infrastructure. I, on
behalf of the college , humbly
requested you for bestowing
your generosity upon the people
of Nepal by helping us to
get grant aid form your government
and donations and endowments
from International Non-governmental
Organizations of your country
which would come forward to
join hands with us to accomplish
the NMC project. Your kind
help towards the fulfilment
of Nepal Medical College mission
goal would be recorded in
the history of medical education
and health services in Nepal.
Thank
you for your kind consideration
of the matter and for initiating
necessary action. I am sure
the initiative taken with
interest will undoubtedly
bear fruits for the medical
students and the people of
your country in general.
I
very much look forward to
hearing positive response
from you.
With
Kind Regards,
Yours
Sincerely,
Dr.
Sachey Kumar Pahari,
