ANNOUNCEMENT OF FACULTY &
NON-FACULTY POSITIONS
Nepal Medical College invites
applications from eligible
Nepalese Medical doctors and
non-medical persons, who fulfill
the faculty criteria of Kathmandu
University and Nepal Medical
Council mentioned below for
different permanent / contractual
faculty positions and non-faculty
posts in the following departments
of Nepal Medical College &
Teaching Hospital. Applications
attached with attested photocopies
of all the academic testimonials
together with required number
of research and other articles
published in National and
International Journals as
required for respective posts,
must be submitted by the candidate
personally to the Human Resources
Committee (HRC) by Baisakh
28, 2064 (May 11, 2007). Those
who do not fulfill the criteria
must not apply and HRC shall
reserve its rights to reject
such applications.
Medical
doctors must be permanently
registered with Nepal Medical
Council (not required for
non-medical persons).
It is
hereby notified to all concerned,
that the applications from
candidates who do not fulfill
the faculty criteria or those
applications without complete
set of essential documents
as listed under clause 3 will
not be accepted and HRC will
not be held responsible for
not accepting such applications.
For those candidates employed
elsewhere, No Objection Letter
to Apply must be submitted
together with the application.
The date of the interview
will be notified over the
telephone to only those candidates
who shall short listed for
the interview.

Faculty Eligibility Criteria:
1.1
Faculty Eligibility Criteria
for Medical Doctors;
Professor
a. Should
have postgraduate degree or
equivalent qualification in
the respective subject together
with teaching / working experience
of three years as Associate
Professor or equivalent post.
or
Candidate holding the position
of a senior consultant (a
minimum 5 years as a consultant,
including 3 years of teaching
experience) will be eligible
for the post of Professor,
after 12 years of experience
in the speciality following
postgraduate degree or equivalent
qualification.
b. Should
have two original research
and two original articles
published in national/ international
journals as the main authour
at the level of Associate
Professor.
Associate
Professor
a. Should
have postgraduate degree or
equivalent qualification in
the respective subject together
with teaching/ working experience
of seven years as Assistant
Professor and Lecturer combined
or seven years of teaching
/ working experience as Lecturer
or equivalent post.
or
Candidate holding the position
of a consultant with an experience
of 7 years (including 3 years
teaching experience) in the
speciality after postgraduate
degree or equivalent qualification.
b. Should
have minimum of two original
researches as main authour
and two other publications
as main/co-authour in national
/international scientific
journal at the level of Assistant
Professor.
Assistant
Professor
a. Should
have postgraduate degree or
equivalent qualification in
the respective subject together
with teaching/ working experience
of three years as Lecturer
or equivalent posts.
or
Candidate with an experience
of working in the speciality
for 4 years after post graduate
degree or equivalent qualification.
b. Should
have two original publications
as the main authour in national/
international scientific journal.
Lecturer
a. Should
have postgraduate degree or
equivalent qualification in
the respective subject.
Note:
a. The research
and publications already considered
for the previous post will
not be taken into consideration.
b. Research
and publications done in fulfillment
for acquiring postgraduate
qualifications will not be
taken into consideration.
1.2
Faculty Eligibility Criteria
for Non-Medical Persons;
In the department of Anatomy,
Physiology, Pharmacology,
Biochemistry, Microbiology
and Community Medicine non-medical
teachers may be appointed
to the extent of 30% of the
total number of the required
faculty positions for each
department. However, in the
subjects where medical teachers
are not available, the 30%
restriction may be related
to a maximum of 50% in concurrence
with the university.
1.2.1. M.Sc.
(medical) qualification in
the concerned subject shall
be sufficient for appointment
as Lecturer. The candidate
will become eligible with
the same qualification for
the post of Assistant Professor
after four years of teaching
/ working experience as Lecturer
or equivalent post in a medical
institution.
1.2.2. Teacher
with M.Sc. (medical) qualification
must possess Ph.D. or equivalent
in the concerned subject for
the post of Associate Professor
and above. He / she must also
have three years of teaching
experience as Assistant Professor
or six years as Lecturer in
a medical institution for
the post of Associate Professor.
For the post of Professor
five years teaching experience
in a medical institution as
Associate Professor is required.
1.2.3. Candidates
with a non-medical M.Sc. (first
division) in Microbiology
or Biochemistry will be eligible
for the post of Lecturer in
Microbiology or Biochemistry
respectively. This criteria
will be applicable until 2005
A.D. and will also be applicable
for promotion to Assistant
Professor.
1.2.4. Other
criteria and requirements
will be the same as for medical
faculties.
2.
Essential documents which
must be attached 2 sets with
the application:
1. Nepalese Citizenship
Certificate.
2. Nepal Medical Council Permanent
Registration Certificate (required
for medical doctors only).
3. MBBS / Equivalent academic
qualification degree and Mark
Sheets.
4. MD/MS/M.Sc./ Equivalent
academic qualification degree
and Mark Sheets.
5. D.M./Ph.D. / Equivalent
academic qualification.
6. Specified numbers of Research
and other published Articles
as required for the post applied
for.
7. No Objection Letter from
the authority in case candidate
is working elsewhere.
8. Recent Curriculum Vitae.
N.B: No application
will be registered without
submitting of The Complete
Set of above mentioned documents
for which the Human Resources
Committee will not be held
responsible. Those who do
not meet the faculty criteria
should not apply. The Human
Resources Committee shall
have the final authority to
accept or reject applications
and to select different number
of faculty in different posts
for different departments
and give appointment immediately
or consider appointment later
in future.
3.
Responsibilities:
NMC & NMCTH faculty members
are required to help medical
students (undergraduate /
postgraduate) learn their
courses of study, provide
health services to patients
and perform scientific research
to contribute for the growth
of medical sciences. They
are also required to participate
in CME programs, talk programs,
journal clubs and grand rounds
and update their own understanding
of medical sciences.
4.
Nature of Appointments:
The posts shall be permanent
posts / contractual service
only.
5.
Working Schedule:
As per the NMC&TH rules
and regulations. However,
the Consultant / Sr. Registrar
posts in Emergency department
and the lecturer posts in
clinical disciplines are residential
posts and those who are appointed
are required to be on duty
at NMCTH on different shifts
including 8PM – 8AM
also.

Salary, Vacations, Leave and
Other benefits:
Salary, Vacations, Leave and
other benefits will be as
per the existing NMC rules
and regulations of the college
2054 with Amendments 2058
which must be fully abided
by the faculty after appointment.
7.

Application forms for Faculty
& Non-Faculty posts can
be obtained from the Administration
Section on payment of Rs.500/-
(Five hundred rupees).
