STUDENT HOSTELS
Separate hostel facilities for female and male students are available in the vicinity of the College. NMC values medical students as one of the most important members of its family that constitute a medical college and its teaching hospital(s). While the NMC undertakes the responsibility of imparting knowledge, skill and attitude to its students, it also feels responsible for making arrangements for their residential facilities in the vicinity of the NMC premises.

NMC students must live in the student hostels compulsorily. NMC encourages students to live in hostels for FOUR most important reasons:

  • The first reason being that student can avail more time for their studies in the NMC library which has good learning facilities.
  • The second reason being that the students can have better interactions about their study with other students and can clarify their doubts through such interactions.
  • The third being the availability of more time for them to interact with the hospital patients outside the fixed routine hours. All these are regarded as positive points in favour of medical students which will help to learn better during the MBBS program and become competent medical doctors of tomorrow. For these reasons, hostel accommodation is compulsory for NMC students and for no other reasons.
  • Save time lost in travel and avoid the fatigue.

Hostel fees are fixed separately and are not included in the fee structure. Hostel fees including mess charges shall be reviewed every year by the concerned private party and has to be followed by the students living in the hostels.

Separate rules and regulations are made for the student residing in hostels, which must be followed strictly by all those residing in the hostels. A set of rules and regulations and tariff will be provided to the individual resident at the time of allocating the accommodation in hostel on first come first serve basis. NMC students living in students’ hostels are warned that use of “substance abuse” and keeping of explosives and fire arms in the hostels is strictly prohibited inside the hostels and in case anybody is found to be involved with “substance abuse” and possessing of explosives and firearms, she/he will be responsible for facing the consequences as per the law of the land, which may even lead for the expulsion from the hostel, including discontinuation from the MBBS program.

LIBRARY
The NMC has a very good library facility which has over eight thousand volumes of books. Books are of reference and text categories of which only the text books can be borrowed as per the rules and regulations of NMC Library. National and International Medical Journals belonging to Health sciences are also available. Nepal Medical College Journal which is the first Nepalese medical journal to be included in MEDLINE and Index Medicus database from the year 2003 is published biannually.

The library opens from 0800-2200 Hours only. The Internet, Medline, CD ROMS, services are available. Students are encouraged to make use of all the facilities available in the library.

PRACTICAL BOOKS / LOG BOOK
In order to help students develop practical skills and clinical acumen, they are encouraged to use practical books/ log books during the practical/clinical placements during the MBBS program. Nepal Medical College has published practical Books and Log books for respective subjects. All students after enrolment must buy respective practical books or log books from the NMC store section.

TRANSPORT
Since living in the student hostels is compulsory, no transport facility is available for students. However, while taking students to different hospitals for clinical placements or for forensic medicine practicals, NMC shall organise transport for NMC students.

STUDENT HEALTH CARE SERVICE
Each and every student who gets admitted in the first year have to undergo thorough health check up after the enrollment for which individual must make payment of the charges. NMCTH provides certain health care facilities free of cost to all NMC students while they remain at NMC.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
For the overall development of medical student, participation in the extra-curricular activities by the student is encouraged. Participation in Health Camps organised by NMC are encouraged. Inter Medical College scientific and related to health sciences debate, seminars and talk programmes meant for medical students form means of developing communication skills and widening the horizon of thinking process that provides opportunities for building own skills.

SPORTS
The present NMC premises do not provide space for outdoor games. However the hostel has provision for badminton, table tennis and basketball. Jogging and climbing over hills and brisk walking can be done outside NMC premises in the vicinity. One should try to maintain one’s own physical fitness in whatever way one thinks it may be possible.
